The debut album of Aaliyah Age Ain't Nothin But A Number was released in 1994. The singer was barely fifteen when her debut album was released as Gold. The group's collaboration heavily influential to R. Kelly's music and brought her into the spotlight. In 1996, she released her sophomore album One In A Million with Jermaine dupri and Timbaland. It contained the number one hit track If Your Girl Only knew. Aaliyah gained international fame for her R&B songs with the release of this album. She was a part of the action and romance movie Romeo Must Die alongside martial artist Jet-Li. Joel Silver, film producer and director of Romeo Must Die spotted her at an awards ceremony.
